All three 2012 mayoral candidates came to breakfast with us at Friday’s meeting, January 13th. Jay Spradling conducted a Q&A with each candidate: Linda Spears, Michael Monti, and Mark Mitchell.

All candidates spoke well of their visons for Tempe.

After the formal program, Chris Sar asked each candidate, “What can we do as Rotarians?” Answers varied around a common theme:

Spears: Link organizations on the Tempe website for better inter-organization communications with neighborhood associations.

Mitchell: Continue to do what we already do with Rotary clubs, especially regarding youth services.

Monti: Engage Rotary and other civic clubs to improve neighborhoods with, for example, door to door services.

Hada Rogers has been working her fingers to bone and losing sleep just to be sure we have a well-designed Duty Roster for the first half of 2012. It is a masterpiece. Our Friday program enjoyed hearing about John and his motorcycling buddy and long time friend Loren Wunderle, who together spent a great six weeks cycling around the U.S.A. — all four corners. Our December 2nd program hosted Nancy Buell for an overview of the Girl Scouts of America and their centennial celebration. Several leaders modeled historical uniforms, from 1919 up to the present, and presented GSA history and vignettes of their own personal experiences. Read more… »
